Default starter install - won't fit

I got a new starter from rockauto, brand is "pure energy" #6492SN, and it uses 2 long bolts instead of one short and one long. I've seen a bunch of posts saying this type of starter can be installed in place of the oem one (which can break at the short bolt side). (Two long bolts is the same as the truck starter?) But, the new one will *not* fit, since there's a flange that sticks out from the block that hits the starter where it's changed for the long bolt. You can see what I mean in this post:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...-broke-10.html
just scroll to the 2nd pic with the arrows, the part that sticks out and gets in the way is #5.
So anyway, has anyone actually installed this starter with the 2 long bolts? If so, what brand? How did you get it to fit?

OK - do you have an auto or m6?

Mines an m6, I'm thinking there might be a difference in clearance with m6 vs auto.

Nope. Blocks are the same. Go to your local parts store and compare your part to the truck alternator to see if there is a physical difference in the design

Its not a matter of which trans or starter you have, it relies on which exhaust you're running. Certain long tubes dont give you much room for a starter install.

Is there a difference between the starters used for engines with a manual transmission or do they share the same starter?

OK found a thread about this exact same problem with the exact same starter:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...need-help.html

So I'm returning this one (big thumbs up for rockauto) and will get the official "truck starter", just have to find the part # for that.
