Air coming from wrong vents?
Air coming from wrong vents? I spent a while searching and couldn't find anything on this, so here I am.
I recently did a head gasket job, and I've had the intake off plenty of times for various reasons, but this time all my air is coming from the bottom vents and defrost no matter what setting I have it on.
I checked the position of the vacuum line that sits next to the driver's side fuel rail and the problem persists with it connected in either spot. Is there another vacuum connection I'm missing somewhere?

I think there's a vacuum line behind the intake manifold, awhile back my mechanic had the manifold off to fix a few engine seals and when I got the car back it did what you said, air out the top and bottom regardless of setting. Vacuum line got pinched.

Exactly what rocket said! When I bought my car a few years back it came with the exact same issue. I managed to get my hand back there and felt the vac line disconnected from the manifold. I reconnected it and it never gave me issues again. Someone told me that when that particular line becomes disconnected it reverts back to defrost and feet.
Definitely check out the vacuum line on the back of the intake to see if it is connected. There is also check valve that I have seen break before by the PCM that will do the same thing.

Thanks guys. I'll check that line once I get home. My brother was helping with reassembly this time around and we may have overlooked that while we were working.
I have the same problem.
Tried to check the vacuum hose today, how the hell can you get your arm back their to check it, let alone reconnect it if it's off. Ha Ha. Their is no way I can fit my hand back their.
