Flashing check engine light at idle
Anyways, engine idle is kinda rough and eventually gets worse. Then the light comes on, I will be honest I haven't had the code run. However When I accelerate it goes away. Car runs above idle. I have a ticking noise that matches with broken gasket. My question is can this gasket being broken cause a random cylinder misfire and if it can wouldn't it be worse when I accelerate.
Usually a leak near a front O2 sensor would cause the sensor to react as though there was a lean condition (due to outside air entering via the leak) and add more fuel, but I wouldn't normally expect this to cause such a serious misfire; an extremely lean condition, poor spark, or something else wrong inside a specific cylinder (such as a broken valve spring, bent push rod, etc.) would be more likely causes. I would scan the codes and see what else might be hiding behind the P0300. Fixing the exhaust leak may or may not solve your issues, but have you actually found an exhaust leak or are you just basing this on the ticking sound?
Just read rpm's reply, he broke it down pretty damn good. Without codes we shoot in the dark as to the cause.
