Default Radio & Power Window Fail Intermittently

For awhile now I've been having problems with my radio. While I'm driving along, it will lose power for a moment & flash off & back on. I just assumed the head unit was worn out and needed to be replaced. But over the past week my driver side power window has intermittently stopped working. Sometimes it works fine & sometimes it's completely dead. I've replaced multiple window motors before. They all seem to die slowly letting me know they needed to be replaced. But this time around, it's acting more like a bad electrical connection.

From what i've researched, it sounds like I might have a bad BCM or window switch. Is there a good way to test what's wrong without pulling my door panel off or removing the BCM to check the solder points? Are there some other things I should check?

Almost certainly is the bcm, pretty common on our old cars.. I just did it not too long ago and it fixed the same problem

I agree with the others, I would start with inspection of solder on the BCM circuit board.

Thanks to everyone for the help. I'll pull my BCM soon & see if I can find the problem.

The threads in the stickies have some really good pictures that show you where to look.

I just pulled the BCM & the bottom solder joint of the "T" formation was cracked & discolored. I'm going to get some desolder braid tomorrow and resolder the joint. It's nice spending a couple bucks to fix a problem instead of a couple hundred to replace the entire module.

Thanks again to everyone for your help.

Very often just re melting the solder and letting it cool will do it

I resoldered the BCM and my window still won't work. I'm starting to wonder if my radio problems were due to the BCM & the window problems were due to a different issue.

When I push the driver side window button down, I can hear the express down relay click. So I'm assuming my switch is okay. I guess my next move is to pull the door panel off and check the motor.

I may try resoldering the BCM again before tearing the door apart. My soldering experience is limited & having a cheap soldering iron doesn't help.

Could be.

If you remove the speaker in the door, you can get to the motor power connector and see if its actually getting power from the express down module. If so, you just have a typical crap motor.

The window motor was shot, so I replaced it for the 3rd time. Hopefully I've got all the little electrical problems worked out now.

I bought a new Dorman motor from autozone. $43 with a lifetime warranty.

Another thing to note. After resoldering my BCM, not only has my radio stopped turning off & on intermittently, but now all of steering wheel radio control buttons work again. I thought they were worn out and needed to be replaced!
