Question Where does this cable go??

I was replacing my alternator this morning and noticed this cable which appears just laying on the frame... where is this normally mounted? I am assuming a ground?

2000 trans am....

Yes this is definitely a ground, although since you have an LS motor I can't really tell you where exactly it is was originally attached. Can you show us more pictures of this ground wire from as far back as you can trace it and any areas of the car to use for reference? If you can get more pictures for us, hopefully someone can check their LS bird out and answer your question as to where it goes to be screwed in.

Would this help? I did a quick google search and one of the diagrams may be your ground wire location.

The shielding wire it was taped to, which i traced back some, went to the o2 sensor... maybe this was one of the spots it could have been connected to ?

picture is laying under the driver door looking up

Mine goes from the frame rail under the fuse block and I think I have it on one of the alternator mounting bolts.

Correct, it mounts between cylinders 6 and 7 on the drivers side behind the alternator, and mounts to the side of the frame rail under the fuse box.

It is an engine ground cable, or engine ground strap

Please see attached pictures and see if this is correct...

As for the frame location, is the red arrow where the other end was supposed to be? the bolt size appears to be the correct size.....
i did see this: G109 Left front frame rail, forward of the brake pressure modulator valve bracket (cruise control, also links to G111)

this is looking down from driver side fender at alternator....
New alternator does not use the back bolt but was this where it originally was?
i found this but i couldnt find another spot: G111 on the left side of the engine, behind the alternator, below exhaust ports (ground link to G109)

Here ya go

The other ground cable at the chassis should have both points attached

Awesome picture, thanks!

so you cannot see this from top side so here is pic looking up from alternator, and looks like this is it.... looks like bolt hole is M8 x 1.25 and threads appear only 3/4 deep... i had a 1" on my bench and stopped about 1/4 still out.... naturally.. so a 1/2 or 5/8 bolt should work good...

No. That spot is for the rear alternator bracket. The ground goes from the engine block to the frame

Looks like you got it, but here is a link to my photos just the same. I went and made a new ground strap, as the stock one is weak and it sucks.
