Default Door lock issue on driver door

For some reason my door has trouble locking at times (passenger locks fine but the driver does not always lock, seems to go half way then stops). Tried moving the lock back and forth to free up resistance but didn't help.

Suggestions? Thanks!

Open up the door and watch the linkages as this happens. If that doesn't show you something, you may need to service or replace the latch module.

I guess I should be more clear.

I can manually move the door lock latch from the inside no problem. Same if I use the key to lock instead of the door lock switch.

it's when I rely on the electronic door lock system to lock the door (it unlocks on its own fine, sometimes locks, other times it moves half way and I have to manually lock).

I'd still take the door panel off and look for binding linkages. If not, your solenoid in the latch mechanism (for the power locks) could be going bad.

It's probably worth checking the voltage to the power locks also.

You need a new door lock actuator. This happened on my car and recently replaced mine. Unlocking the car from the inside is no problem but when you lock the doors from inside, the driver side lock won't slide in all the way, it bobs instead, right?

You will need to remove the interior door panel to access the actuator. It is connected to a metal rod that moves the door lock, and that metal rod is connected to the door lock cylinder on the outside. When you buy a replacement actuator, check the box to see that you get at least three orange or neon colored plastic o-clips. You will need to apply pressure against those metal rods which are connected via those o-clips. You simply press the rod hook from out of the self-locking tabs of the o-clips, you can figure it out when you work on your car like I did.

ALSO, the door lock actuator is mounted to the door latch on the inside. You will need to first detach those metal rods, then unplug the cable from the actuator, then unfasten the entire door latch via screws from the outside of the door. Once you have removed this entire unit, you can access that actuator. I just remembered this part now, so I wanted to help you out if this message reaches you in time.

The process was a pain in the butt, yet you can figure out the intricate system they have set-up in that door.

This is what the set-up will look like. Those rods can be removed by opening up that black clip. You don't have to tear it off or anything, it does open up.

That doesn't look too difficult.

I should mention it happens mostly when it is hot outside, so which actuator should I get?

Issue is with the latch where it mounts to the actuator. Mounting tabs broken.

So -- where can I get new door latches?

I'm having a problem with the driver side manual door lock and I wonder if it's the same issue. Both of my fobs died and I was using the keys for awhile. I noticed that sometimes turning the key in the driver door would sometimes be very difficult (sometimes worrying that that a part would break) and other times it would very gradually turn. From the inside, the manual slide lever would not budge. While inside and door closed but unlocked, I could not manually lock it. If I locked the doors with the power locks, then the manual door lock would not allow me to slide it to unlock the door. No problems at all on the passenger door. Also, I have a worn door hinge which causes the door to sag a bit.

I did take the driver door panel off and I traced the rods to some sort of part near the door latch, but it was hard to access and I didn't know what to do with it anyway.

Is this what we need to replace?

And since I'm in the area, I have a lot of play in the driver side door handle... what is needed to resolve that?
