Check and see if you have fuel pressure when it dies. If it does have fuel pressure make sure its the right amount. It sounds like the fuel pump is either getting hot and cutting out or its dropping fuel pressure enough to die. Check your fuel pump relay first.

I used to have issues like this with one of my L36 (3.8L) cars. It needed an ignition module, something which seems to be failure prone on these engines (and the replacement one, that I bought new from GM, died a few years later in the same way; had to replace it again).

But, as mentioned above, it's not a bad idea to check fuel pressure too.

If it dies instantly....as if you turned the key off.

Go buy a new Crank Shaft Position sensor......swap it out. Go for a drive. Thats the exact symptoms of a failing CSP sensor.

If its not it......clean it off and return it. Tell them you never even installed it. Get a refund.

If you need to replace the ICM<ignition control module> do your self a huge favor and buy a Delphi unit online. The aftermarket units from places like Autozone fail very quickly. Same with the CPS<crank position sensor>Delphi is the usually what came from the factory.
