Default Lifter Tick

does anyone think this if lifter tick? Also when I pop the valve covers to check the rocker arms for play from a bad lifter does the piston need to be at TDC? I know for sure there’s an exhaust leak at the headers and cat gasket. Car showed misfire on cylinder 1 then went away a couple days later. 1998 Z28 stock with Borla muffler

Is this the normal sewing machine/LS tick? Will thicker viscosity just quiet it down? Don’t want to harm the motor. Has 150,000 miles

I agree . Could try unplugging the injector harnesses / spark plugs one at a time on each cylinder checking if the knock goes away or changes in sound .

That's no rod knock I ever heard. Sounds just like my 155k 01 WS6. EXACTLY. I'd say its time for lifters.

Try thicker oil and if it goes away you can go a bit longer, if it's still there you need to fix it quick. That's if it is lifters. Videos without out good mics and sound edited are pretty useless for trouble shooting.

If I want to pull the valve cover and check for play in the rocker arms from a collapsed lifter does that piston need to be at top dead center?

Not TDC. The lifter needs to be on the base circle. Turn the crank until the exhaust valve just moves on that cylinder to check the intake and then move it again until the intake is half way closed and check the exhaust.

If your motor is full of oil, drain it a quart then go to wal mart and purchase 1qt of Lucas oil stabilizer.

Thanks! And I can just put a breaker bar on the front of the crank pulley to rotate the whole assembly?
