Default Throttle position sensor??

Everytime I start my car after having it sit for a few days I get a code for my TPS. I reset the code and it's fine all day after driving it around. But yet it always throws the code again in a couple days. I've already replaced it once, any ideas what else could be causing this issue?

Is it causing drivability issues along with the code?

I just went through a marathon dealing with the TPS, several sensors later I tried a TPS reset procedure different from ones I had tried before and it mostly fixed things. Now I get a code maybe once a month but no drivability issues. I'll probably try to figure out the underlying issue one day but it's not a pressing matter for me at the moment.

It sometimes causes the engine to idle high. Upwards of 1500 to 2000 RPM.

Get a new TPS and make sure to get an AC Delco. Never had luck with other brands.

You may find this article helpful: http://www.wellsve.com/sft503/counterp_v2_i1_1998.pdf

We see a lot of folks with TPS issues caused by wiring cuts/shorts, so you may consider investing some time in doing the full diagnostics on the circuit, depending on your specific TPS code. There are a bunch of good youtube videos and also some good member threads on this site you may check out for the TPS.

This. I chased a high idle for a while because of inferior parts. I refuse to buy any wiring or sensors that aren't genuine GM or ac Delco parts.

Side note check your wiring for insulation cracks and the connections.

Inspect your egr valve, and the egr hose for degradation. I had one that had issues and it was causing intermittent high idle. This can also cause some other concerns, such as shifting issues. Just a thought.

Edit: with respect to the high idle, not necessarily the code.

If I remember correctly the EGR system has already been deleted.

maybe your IAC is sticking. Have you cleaned it and the orifice it goes into?

I have cleaned the IAC. Didn't make much of a difference.

...it could be bad. You have a way to view its function with a scan tool?

No I don't. I have a basic scan tool, nothing fancy. I just ordered a new IAC Valve to eliminate that as a suspect. I looked last night and I recently replaced the TPS with an AC Delco replacement.

New IAC should solve it hopefully. Let us know.

I also had a high idle issue. I cleaned my throttle body, and in the process found a hole drilled in the throttle plate. I sealed it with JB Weld. Then the idle was even higher in between shifts. I cleaned my MAF, replaced both O2 sensors, then I replaced my IAC sensor and the engine started idling sometimes as high as 3000RPMs between shifts. Had to keep the brake on to keep it from running wild. When I got home, I disconnected the IAC sensor wire and started it up, and it idled at about 1100. I checked the voltage to the IAC, the MAF, the MAPS. The voltage to the IAC cold was 10.5V. Both the MAF and the MAPS were 5V with key on engine off. Radical cam, ported/polished heads, 12:1 compression, LS7 intake. Help!

I started it today, with the IAC disconnected from the connector, and it idles perfectly! Took it out for a drive, and in between shifts, the RPM's dropped like they should. Curious as to if it was the IAC module, I reinstalled the old IAC, and it revved up like before. So, I reinstalled the new IAC module and it acted normal. So, I guess it was the IAC module. Nice to have my car back to normal.

New IAC has seemed to clear it up most of the time. I've only had one time so far that it did it to me again. Gonna put a new AC Delco TPS in this weekend and see what that does.
