Default weight of lifting front - edit: added pic

Anyone know what the weight of the front of an fbody is when lifting with a hoist (cherry picker), no engine or kmember, rear on the ground? More than 500 lbs?

If you're worried about the cherry picker not being able to, I wouldn't be concerned. Lots of us have done it without issue. I had the arm completely extended on mine when I did it (more than once) and no issue.

Related question: is this an OK place for attaching the lift chains? I couldn't find anything better without taking off the whole front. Haven't actually lifted it yet.

I would not lift on that part, it's likely going to bend easily. Most will go around the upper radiator support, use a strap, not a chain to minimize damage to it.

If you do a search on "how to remove the engine from the bottom", there are many threads on how to do it properly, with pics.

Yeah have looked at lots of threads but no one shows where they attached the chain. Upper rad support looks even more flimsy to me, that's where I was going to use originally, decided against it. Lower support at least has a vertical brace in the middle. Strap doesn't allow adjustment of length, I also tried that.

I would place a 2x6 or two under that to spread the load a bit and protect the rad support from the chains.

Good idea, thanks. Just happen to have some 2X6 pieces I got for making a base for jack stands when the car is pointing up.

Having a problem posting pics from some of the parts cars I've stripped down. One shows a good shot of where I put the strap. I'll see if I can get it posted.

I put a hook at the end of the chain and hooked it under the hood latch point. The front end is so light at this point without engine/trans and subframe, this is fine. It has to be strong enough to keep the hood from flying up at speed and in an accident.
