Default Ac fix

I’ve recently purchased a 2000 ss, with heads cam intake combo. Ever since I’ve bought it I have had a problem with the air conditioning first going through the defrost and then maybe 15 minutes later switching to the vents. I’m thinking maybe a vacuum leak in a line somewhere. Also does it cool. Any ideas? Thanks

Do you mean it's not blowing cool air, even when the air is coming through the correct vents?

What I’m gathering is that the vacuum line to the blend door has broken and it’s defaulting to blowing through the defrost only like it does when that happens.

yeah I’m thinking something along those lines. It’s just weird how it will finally switch over to vent after 15+ minutes of driving. Will not cool down though either.

I think you have two separate issues going on. When an A/C vacuum line brakes it will default to blow out of the defrost but it should still be cold. I don’t think you have a broken line though since it eventually blows out of the vents. I think it’s going to be something with the blend door though.
As far as it not blowing cold- either there’s not enough refrigerant or maybe the low pressure switch is bad. Look up how to jump the pressure low pressure switch to see if the compressor comes on. If it comes on try to add some R134A. It’ll blow hot if there is too much r134a in the system but that’s not going to be the case unless it was serviced recently.

I would also start by checking the blend door for the cooling problem. Unlike the other AC controls, the blend door is cable driven. If you move the blend **** in a quiet car, you should hear a "thud" as the door hits the extremes of its motion in the duct system. If you hear the thud at the full cold and full hot setting, I would assume the blend door is good and then move to the refrigerant system.

It's a transducer not a switch. The system in these cars is a V7 variable displacement compressor. The switch turns the fans on when the pressure rises and shuts the compressor off if the pressure is low. The compressor never cycles.

The switch most likely is not bad. It's low on refrigerant, I'd put money on it.

Does it default to blow through the defrost vents when it’s low?

Not when the refrigerant is low. There is nothing that communicates between refrigerant pressure and vent operation.

I didn’t think so.
