Default Oil analysis…….brand new fully forged iron 390ci

A bunch of you all asked for it, here you go.

This is the oil analysis at 50 miles. One will be here soon from the 400 mile change. Then I’ll do another one at 1500 miles.

Driven BR30 break in oil was used to 400 miles. Now it has regular Valvoline 10w30 Full Synthetic.

At the 50 mile and 400 mile oil changes there wasn’t a single spec of metal on the oil drain plug magnet. ZERO.

I really like Blackstone. The comments are always really helpful and its obvious there is someone on the other end taking the time to do a thoughtful analysis and look at our situation. (No copy & paste replies!)

I would think it’s looking pretty normal. Should trend down the next sample.

Strange that I had absolutely nothing on my oil drain magnet. My last two stroker engines over the years had a bunch of powder looking metal shavings until about 2500 miles. Then it all diappeared for many years. Maybe because the crank, rods and pistons were reused???? If thats where most of the metal shavings come from, brand new unbroken-in rotating assembly parts. If thats where it comes from than it makes sense that I have none.

There will always be wear metal in a freshly assembled shortblock. The rings are mating with their respective bores. Looks good, enjoy!

Remember this is PPM, parts per million. Should be have large flakes and debris. Keep doing what you are doing.

My oil drain magnet shows absolutely zero metal shavings on it. Thats whats strange. This is my 3rd fully forged LS engine. The forst two at 50 and 250 and 500 miles had a big bush of metal shavings all over the oil drain magnet. And disappeared totally as the mileage increased.

Not this time. I got nothing.

400 mile report with the Driven BR30 high zinc break-in oil. I just started using Valvoline advanced full synthetic 10w30.
Next analysis I’ll do after 1500 additional miles from this point forward. So a total of 1,950 will have been put on the engine.

Engine feels very strong and very smooth, pulls really nice all the way to redline which is set at 6800. Builder said I can rev higher if I want but no need for now.
