Window regulator failures 5 in 4 years....
I have a 2000 Camaro SS convertable.
I am contantly having issue with the driver side (only!) motor failing.
I have used differnt brands, Ccurrently I have the Dorman 741-886 Front Driver Side Power Window Regulator And Motor Assembly (replacing with the aame as it is under warranty).
I do not know WHY this one keeps failing. The tracks seeming to be free and I do not notice any binding. I have relubed the tracks with white lithium grease, The voltage seems ok (11.6)
I can now replace this in about 1 - 2hours, so I have had some practice.
I have mainly been replacing the regulator & motor. I actually find this is easier, but I do have leaks, so I need to spend time adjusting.. Looks like https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearanc...rite-up-2.html will help in this area.
Any thoughts as to how I can stop having failures????
Thanks! Mc
The first steps are to follow the shbox guides for:
1) Window Motor replacement
2) Window alignment
http://shbox.com/1/how_tos.html
^ These guides ring true over the entire 4th gen run of cars and are the gold standard for these issues. (The shbox motor replacement not only makes the swap easier but it reduces other damage to the door that leads to window alignment issues and other really bad wear and tear. If your regulator rivets are no longer round or the regulator moves in the door panel, please post pictures here.)
How often are you replacing your motor?
BTW - The steps and sequence to the window adjustment are VERY important. If one step is out of place, it mucks everything up. In particular, if the window stabilizers aren't right, they can bog down the motor and make it look like it has gone bad.
