Default Is this not the correct compressor?

Im looking for a One and Done A/C compressor for my 01 Trans Am. Flipping through the forums, Ive seen where delphi or denso should do it. I could only find a V5 Delphi, but I found the one below on summit. (Don't recall if I'm allowed to post the summit link) Im questioning it because it only has 1 review and its 1 star stating -QUOTE-" Sadly, I cannot give this Compressor a true review because it does not fit the 5.7 LS Engine in the Z28 or the SS Camaro or the Trans-Am or the Formula."
Its the only Denso listed as compatible with 2001 T/A. Anyone have a good source? I have the dryer/orifice and condensor.

Applications for DNP-471-9140
Denso Air Conditioning Compressors for 1995-2002 CAMARO, FIREBIRD - 471-9140
Application Notes:
3.8L-3800CC-231CID-6-V (156); A/C Compressor w/ Clutch - New; OE recommended replacement part. OE-specified Oil included.

Try comparing a 6-cyl vs a V8 one on rockauto or something. I think you'll find that they're COMPLETELY different.

A truck one might work butt I seriously doubt it. Pretty sure the bolt pattern is different. Maybe you could get a truck bracket and then it would work, butt I doubt even that, given the belt situation.

V6 and V8 used different compressors and the correct one for a V8 car would have these numbers 1137028, 1137014, or 89018889. The part no. for the AC Delco was 15-20730

Do you still have the original compressor? You do know they can be rebuilt right?

Great! Thenks for the feeback. Yes, I still have it, guess I didn't consider getting it rebuilt or even know where to start to have it done. Its still on the car and functions but its making some pretty rad noise. The cars been parked for over a year waiting for upgrades. Is it common for a local shop to rebuild them or something that needs shipped off?

IDK, took that venture on myself. Go to RockAuto.com and look up the year make and model of the vehicle and go to Heating and Air Conditioning. From there you can find the parts to rebuild the A/C compressor but if there's internal damage then it's toast!

July of 2021 I did mine with a Delphi DFP-C-S1034. It was a fully oil charged compressor. Doesn't look available at Summit where I bought it from. My system worked when I replaced the OEM, it just leaked oil badly from the compressor. I took the easy road since the car only had 50K on it and its been fine since.

Kept the original thinking one day I'd rebuild it.

OP,

As others have mentioned, that Denso DNP-471-9140 A/C compressor is only for V6 applications. We see our site currently lists it for V8 applications as well, which is incorrect, and we’ll get that corrected.

It looks like AC Delco, Denso, and Delphi no longer offer an A/C compressor for the 98-02 4th gens with the 5.7 LS1. We do offer a Four Seasons FSS-68288 A/C compressor. It’s a new V7 unit and the correct fit for your 2001 Trans Am with the 5.7 LS1.

Thanks for the reply. Thats what I was afraid of; the 3 compressor that are recommended most are no long produced so guess I need to start on a new trail of which ones gonna be the best one for quality/longevity. THANK YOU for confirming what I had gathered, but couldn't confirm.

Looks like AC Delco, Denso, and Delphi all threw in the towel, so back to the drawing board to determine which of the remaining options would be best quality. Thanks for the response.

I believe that 4-seaons brand is all that's left. Lots of folks have been unhappy with the performance and longevity of their LS compressor, so I'd highly recommend getting the stock one rebuilt if you can find a good local rebuilder.
