pop in the rear of car
pop in the rear of car its a 95z and i dont drive it but once a week or so but if it sets for more than a week when i go to back up there is a loud pop in the rear and it almost feels like something is froze up. the rear brakes look ok so i dont think it is the parking brake sticking but could be. i am afraid it may be the rear end. i had 4.10s put in years ago by a local gm dealer and it is a genuine gear but has always whined and to me felt like it had slack but the tech assured me the specs were right. any ideas guys?
get the car on a level surface and start pushing on it. push up and down side to side. the idea is to try and see if the suspension or poping or what. i had a friend have his jam nut start to back out on his PHR. this caused it to bang around. didnt sound like a clunk but we sure didnt think it was the PHR til we started pushing on the car.
does this pop happen when you just start to move? a little while down the road? after hitting a bump?

might be the ebrake cable now that i think about it. mine makes noise now when i try to use it. honestly not sure how to check this for you though. i would maybe think about getting it on a lift or try to make it happen whenever you want. say pull the brake then release then move and see if that causes it to pop.

maybe 8 thousand miles or 1.5 years ago. i had a leak so i had to replace the gasket around the diff cover. i checked the level and it is fine but you never know i guess. i may change it again to see if it makes a difference

I also hear a pop/clunk coming from my rear end too when I put it in reverse and give it some gas. Same thing happens when I put it in drive and give it some gas and the tranny shifts. What's up with that ????????????? I have looked at everything and found nothing.

In my 94 z28, I did the rear gear oil change, and once I was done, a few hundred miles later I would get the same pop/clunk but only in reverse. I didnt add any LSD fluid from GM, since I went full synthetic. Some say you dont have to or you should anyway. I went the cheap route. If I wouldnt have sold the car soon after im sure I would have paid for it in the end.
