Default The Bad Window Motor Curse

Ok...so I have a 2002 Ws6...and already my window motor is dying on me on the drivers side. I searched around and so far everyone says Autozone is a big nono....anybody have any suggestions on where to look/buy...ebay maybe? I'm not sure what price range I'm looking at but I want a good motor so I won't have anymore problems for a while at least.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I've had to replace both of my window motors in my 02 WS6 . This was not one of GMs greatest ideas tiny motor and a huge window great combo. Go with a motor from Advanced or Auto zone because they're alot cheaper than an OE replacement and they also carry a lifetime warranty as compared to a GM replacement which comes with a 1yr warranty. Either way theyre not gonna last so you might as well buy an aftermarket one that way you only have to pay for it once.

i replaced my passenger's side window motor with an autozone motor.

it works perfectly. speed completely matches the stock motor on the driver's side, and it is just as quiet (actually, it is just a hair quieter than the stock one) ..
it cost around $50.

i'd suggest get that one....

Did this just last fall. 4th gen owners will tell ya to go to autozone and get the Siemens (SP) brand for $46.00. Lifetime Warranty and its not a rebuilt GM unit like NAPA and Advanced.

autozone has regional pricing, so it will vary, I've seen it from $46 to $85 for the window motor from them.

I have 2 of them in my car, works good.

I thought I saw someone say the other day that the Siemens ones from autozone are much faster than the stock ones ?

Funny, I was thinking about making a topic about this.
Its seems that my drivers side one is going bad. But its like the connection, not the motor. The motor works (a lot slower than the pass. one) but if I go to adjust it more than 1 time within like a 1 minute period, it doesnt work. If I wait, it works fine, or if I turn the car off, and then back on its fine... kinda weird.

Yeah, that's exactly what mine is doing...and I could only assume it was the beginnings of my window motor dying on me. I'd rather not get stuck in the rain or something if it's gonna start doing this to me, so I'm changing them now just to avoid the hassle later

Check this out from the FAQ in the Stereo & Electronics section:

Here is another thread on the subject:

I dont know where you heard to stay away from AutoZone window motors. All the threads I have seen say to get the Seimans motors from AutoZone. They are about $55 with a lifetime warranty. I have replaced my driver's side window motor with a Siemans window motor a while back. While some say that its much faster than stock, I say that its about the same. Those people must have had bad passenger window motors too.

I have the auto zone motor and it works fine. It has been in the car for about 2 years and is still working good. The best thing about it is that it has a lifetime warranty which is good because they are not cheap especially from dealer.

Yup...going to buy my window motor this week. Its beginning to drive me insane every time I turn the car off I waste another 5 minutes trying to get my window up. My passenger side is working still, but I am going to change both just to avoid the hassle later.

Autozone it is

This sucks. I cringe at the thought of doing this. Too bad it didn't happen while under warranty. (mine are still working just fine and warranty ends this month)

So what's it like to get into the door panels? I really don't want scratches, gouges, or loose fitting panels after the fact.

Its not nearly as bad as you think.
I too didnt like the idea of taking my door apart, risking scratches, new rattles, etc.
But its a very strait forward process, and very simple. Me and my dad just did it on saturday, and the only hard part was getting the bolts in for the new motor (because of how its positioned, its hard to get any tools or your hands back there).
Just be gental with the door pannel and it will be fine.
BTW I also adjusted the window angle (there are two little adjustment things on the door) and when I close the door there is no more window rattle!

Is there another option like lightweight windows or something? I read ours weigh 40lbs! hell you can solve two problems at once, weight reduction and bad power windows. The question is does anyone make lightweight windows are would they need to be custom?

I installed an AutoZone window motor tonight. Getting the old one out was a snap when using the instructions I found while searching this site. The new one was kind of a pain in the *** to get those tiny little screws into the holes and to stick thru enough to get the nut started on the backside. I had to use a pair of small vise-grips to squeeze the motor to the mounting frame just so they would allow those little screws to pass all the way thru.

GM really did a ****-poor job on the design of these motors, and I guess they figured they would never need to be replaced judging by the way they decided to mount them without any access.
