Will just plain rubbing alcohol and a q-tip work?... without any damage

I cleaned my maf screen today, it was covered in grass.

Play it safe and go down to Autozone, Kragan or whatever and pick up some CRC MAF cleaner.

yep just bought a can for like $6 from advance auto... have yet to use it, but will this weekend... its by the brake cleaner and all that good stuff
