Default Burping the Coolant System

Me and a friend have been finishing up the install of a new motor. The engine runs great and we have finshed the break-in period. The temp had been reading normal. After making several WOT runs the temp goes up to 260. THe temp thens goes back down to normal (210) We checked the coolant temp sensor and then changed the t-stat. THe problem is still there. I was told that the coolant possibly has air pockets. Can anyone tell me how I would go about burping the system to get these air pockets. Would this cause what I have discribed? ANY HELP would be appreciated. Thanks.

I did it through the line that goes into the head from the throttlebody. I have the bypass, so I unhooked the hose from the line going into the head and slowly filled up the system untill coolant came out the tube. I reattached the hose, topped off the radiator, and let it run without the cap. I continued to top off as needed untill no more air was bubbling out and it would not take anymore coolant. Hope this helps.

OPen the raditor cap when the engine is cold. Fill the system including the reservoir and start the engine.

Let the engine run with the cap off until it reaches full operatin temperature and you can see antifreeze moving around in the radiator (at least 10 minutes).

Turn off the motor and fill the system including the reservoir. Replace the cap and start the engine and run it at idle for a few minutes.

That ussually does it.

You should do everything everyone said, and do what tirefryer said several times when cold upon startup. I did this and got air 3 or 4 times after the first time.

Well I tried everything that was suggested and my temp still went over to 260 after hard acceleration. When I was driving normal the temp was fine. Any other suggestions?

You may want to jack up the passenger side to get the radiator cap at the highest point you can so the air can escape, i know it sounds over the top, but it worked on mine, and if that doesnt work, check the waterpump, then try getting your radiator rotted

Once I jack the passenger side do I take off the radiator cap? I'm willing to try anything to get this fixed.

If you are sure its not the thermo or temp sensor, I would think its gotta be more like the water pump, the radiator is probably too new to be messed up. Waterpumps dont always last a long time "if your useing the old one". Does it move water good when you look in the filler when the the thermo is open? Maybe its time for a pretty, pretty meziere. Also are you sure the fans are both operating when they are supposed to.

Yea, just make sure the coolent is cold when you do this, i usually wait a good 3-4 hours after driving before burping it, you may have got a bad thermo too you may want to try another one.

I drilled a small hole in the top part of the thermostat, the metal just below the rubber sealing ring, (A trick I learned working on BMW motors) it allows any steam/air to circulate and escape.
