I'd go with a 40w and I also use the K&N oil filter.

I use a K&N oil filter and German Castrol 0w30. Some will say it's the best oil for an ls1. Do a search for posts by Patman, he's the oil guru here and there has been hundreds of posts on this topic.

For Royal Purple, since it tends to thin out some during use in an LS1, I'd say the 10w40 would be what you'd want to use.

Amsoil's Euro formula 5w40 is also a popular oil among the LS1 crowd... I personally use Amsoil XL 5w30 with an Amsoil Super Duty oil filter.

If you or anyone else is interested in Amsoil info, shoot me a PM... I'm an independent dealer and can give a great price for fellow board members.
