Default Another Power Window Thread...

Anyone know how much it might cost to get my power window fixed at the dealer? I've read the DIY tutorials, but dont feel like messing around with removing the door panel and drilling stuff..

It will probably be around $300.00 Just an estimate. I need both of my window motors replaced. Bought two motors from AutoZone for $115. Found a guy at the dealership willing to do the work on the side for $100.00 Still thinking about trying it myself though.

A week after I bought my 94 Camaro used, the drivers side window motor went out. I took it back to the dealership and they replaced it, under warrenty. But the bill came to $270, out of there pocket.

I just did the driver's side power window yesterday on my son's 94 Z28. It's a pain, but on a scale of 1 to 10, it's only a 5. I made the mistake last time of buying lifetime motors off of Ebay. Hey, when you need a new one, you don't want to wait to send it back. So I bought a new motor from Autozone for $55. The hardest part is getting the new one back in, you really need 3 hands, but if you have someone to help you it makes it a lot easier. Plus, throw away the short screws that come with the new motor and buy some longer ones. I also think next time, I'll buy some longer screws with alllen heads.. I used a magnetic screw driver to get the screws into the tight places and an allen headed screw would have made it a lot easier.

Go ahead and do this one yourself. It's not that hard and shouldn't take you more than a couple of hours the first time and probably only an hour in the future.

My driver side window motor finally went last month and my dealership told me $210 to fix it. I haven't done it yet but I plan to sit down with a friend and pay him to just help me do it. My passenger side window won't last long either and I can't see paying $420 to have two window motors replaced.

Get a motor with a lifetime warranty and do it yourself - not hard at all, even if you've never done it before.

Same here, not nearly as hard as I thought it would be. The first one took me a couple of hours but future replacements (2 fbody's in the family) shouldn't take me more than an hour.

I have had my car since 2001, and I have had to do this twice on the driver's side. The first time was took me about 2 hours, since I didnt have any help, and had to find the rivets myself. NOT fun, lemme tell ya. The second time, was more like a half hour. Be careful when you take the switched out of the door, the slots those tabs go in break pretty darn easily.

I get to do my passenger side this weekend, should be fun.

You might as well - I did my first one in an hour or so! Save yourself a couple hundred and do it yourself!
