I don't let anyone work on my car as long as I can do it myself. I know enough people if I can't do it then someone I know can.

Yeah getting the wires off is a real ****. Thats what took me the longest.
A piece of 3/8 rubber hose works good for threading the new plugs back in.

Hi Folks
I just changed the plugs on 96 Z-28 - what a nightmare. Driver was OK, had room to work. The passenger side was a F___ nightmare. I removed the Alternator to give myself more room. Plug 4 & 6 was Ok, tight but I could remove them. plug 2 was not to bad to remove but some how I cross threaded the plug putting it back in - no room and had the pipes interfering. After many hours of fixing the problem, I managed to get the plug back in. I could not get to plug 8, my hands and arms are to big, no room. Plug 8 still has the old plug, oh well. If I knew how much trouble I would get into, I would have taken it to the dealer and let them deal with it. On my 92 I have removed the engine, etc, my 02 removed and replaced the cam and heads, etc - so I have worked on cars.
Unless you have small hands and arms, take it to the dealer - at least for the LT1, the LSx appear to be a little easier when you have headers.
Thanks - just my two cents.
Bill

Out of the box, my TR55's were about 0.056 - 0.057, left them that way and put them in.

Gapping/measuring tool is like $1, available at any automotive store.

Check them first out of the box, you may not have to change them.

it was a nightmare on my LT1 (97 Ws6), but I can do them on the LS1 in about 40 min. If you have big forearms, buy stock in bandaids. Otherwise patience is the main tool required; go slow and don't be too anxious. My first time around I cracked a plug using a universal joint installing it.

Thanks. I'm going to pick one up later. I'll do a search for a good gap size. I'm assuming around .50-55 is the way to go.

The only plug I used a universal on in my LS-1 was #8, the rest were either no extension, 1 x 1", 2 x 1", or a 3" straight extension.

And yes, left inside forearm showed battle scars for a week from getting around the dip stick on passenger side for 6 & 8.

Yessah #8 was a bitch to reach, but I had a hard time throwin the rachet on #6. But I got em all from the top. Oh and loosening the final bolt on the coil rail required a reg wrench, one of my AC/Heat hoses was over it, so i couldnt fit the deep socket on top. Everything else was pretty straight forward.

I noticed a smoother idle and it runs better when cold.
