Default OMFG Has everyone forgotten how to lift these cars?

Bought used Z28 vert in early July.

In late July, a local Firestone full lifted the vehicle on the front fender mounts. In early August, after much fighting, they paid to have them fixed. By early September, they're fixed.

Today, I'm at a local Belle tire trying to get a nail patched (can't patch it new tire). Place an order for a new tire and go to leave... guess what is jutting out? MY FENDER AGAIN.

Argue to no avail and decide I'm better off going home and doing the hammer mod, rather than waste so much time going through the process of dispute and repair again.

Don't feel bad reminding shops how to lift these cars. I'm batting 2 out of 3 now for improper lifting.

Peace.

They see the little tabs hanging down that say "DO NOT JACK HERE" and assume the General was kidding, appearently.

Seriously it's way to common.

Look around at normal stree F-bods. I'd say over half of them have jutting fenders.

When I got my Z28 It had the same problem. Those Tire & Brake places hire kids who dont know **** and dont care ! They're making $8 bucks an hour and It Ain't their Car. Always try to go to a trusted shop or do it yourself. I used some small C clamps I got at a swap meet and they've held for over 2 years. Only cost me like $4 . And then of course the hammer trick to get E'm flush

I just go new tires put on the SS and they did almost the same thing. Except they jacked it up from the seam right under the door front and rear both side. Why didn't the just do it on the SFC's they're a lot stronger than the seam. retards

They screwed mine up the first time I brought it in to a shop. Now I tell them to make sure they don't jack it up from where it says "Do not jack here". Haven't had the problem again.

its tough when they are bent so bad the plastic breaks off and you cant barely bolt it on...got some big fender washers barely holding it...imma try and see if i can have someone melt some new plastic plates onto the fenders, so theres something to bolt to...

todd if i looked down seen my fender bulging, and no easy way to fix it id try and make them buy me a new clip!! g

i have seen these cars with the fenders bulging out at the bottom and didnt realize what it was from. Thanks for the post, now i know to be careful for the same thing. But i agree, dealerships, most shops, they just dont care anymore, i work in the aircraft buisness and we have tight inspection. I think dealerships should have the same inspection buyoff before the job is done. Just my opinion

If the bottom isn't split, cracked, or otherwise mutilated, a big pair of channelocks on the tab will usually pull them back in place. I've had the underside split before and had to be repaired. Cost the garage a $100 bill. If a shop is too sorry to own up to their mistake I would get it fixed and take them to small claims court. (that would be after I told them what sorry %$#;'s they are)

i always tell them few things they need to know before they work on my car, even though i sound like bitch, but if they **** something up, it would be their full responsibility. no more that "it like that when you bring the car here" bull ****

I took my 97' to the dealer where I bought it from for some warranty work in 98', when I got home I noticed the idiots had lifted my car up under the rocker panels ! Four nice little square dents under the sides of my new car. I have yet to find a dealer that has a service dept. worth a ****.

Yep me to. I had 2000 miles on my car and took it to a local Firestone for installation of my SLP Y-pipe. They don't normally do exhaust work but since it was a 20 min. job the desk guy said it was okay. I knew about the lift points and told the desk dude to watch the way they lift it. Dumbass didn't ask the dude out in the shop if he was aware = both fenders out at the bottom. They paid for a local body shop to fix them. The tabs were just folded up. It happens

I've had the same problem with the kids that work at Discount tire. So after 3 screw ups by 3 different techs I started taking before pics with my digital camera. Came in handy one time when they said it came in that way and I had before pics with the date stamp from the same day on there.

If I ever have to goto a tire shop, I drive teh car on the lift, or put the jack where i want it.
I'll even take the friggin wheel off if possible.
