5w40 syn

is 5w40 castrol syn good for the lt1's? or should i use mobil 1 5w30

There is only 3 real companys that "make" oil. I know penzoil is one.......but anyway. I have run all types of oil. I do like Castrol I run that in my LT1 20w50 (Vortech). I run 10w40 in my 2000.

Patman, the oil expert around here recommends the 0w-30 german castrol, or the mobil 1 5w-40. The mobil 1 5w-30 is too thin and shows about twice the wear indicators as the mobil 1 5w-40.

The LT1 (just like the LS1) definitely benefits from a slightly thicker oil, so any of the 5w40s out there will be better than Mobil 1 5w30.

the castrol 5w-40 i use @ work is not the german blend i think but the oil is gonig into vw's its what they recommend for all their motors.
