Default Car shakes all over when coming to a stop -- is this normal?

I drive an '01 TransAm. I've noticed that when I'm coming to a stop from going at highway speeds (i.e., 50mph or greater), the whole car shakes and rattles as I'm slowing down. Is this normal or do I need to get her checked out? Actually, I'm going to be taking her in for service within the next couple of weeks anyway, but I figured I get some input from you guys in the mean time.

Thanks.

Your brake pads could be shot....or your rotors cracked or wharped.

typical for OEM rotors.. they warp like hell.. I just bought the cheapo Ebay slotted.. not crossdrilled(they will crack) they were like $65 or $85 shipped.. and they brake good enough for me.. never fade or anything..a nd i bought bosch ceramic lifetime warranty pads.. I go through about 2 sets of pads on a set of the cheapo rotors..

Its up to you how much you wanna spend on rotors though! Good luck

The stock rotor's warp like its cool, you should get them turned at least, but if you can afford it just buy new rotors. I had mine (stock) turned 2 months ago and they have already warped again. Also check your tire psi

what everyone else said, stock rotors warp easy but it could be more than just the rotor. A frozen caliper will give you the same. Its real easy to do the brake job on one of these cars. I put zinq washed powerslots on and hawk pads and haven't had a problem since. Any good aftermarket rotor will work though, stay away from cross drilled unless your dropping the big coin on the expensive ones. zinq wash to prevent rust.

another vote for aftermarket rotors. even though my stokers on the camaro never really warped, they wore really uneven, always a lot of grooving even though I resurfaced them @30k miles.

Last year I had my camaro, I put on some aftermarket drilled/slotted rotors in the front, that made a big difference in braking and in how smooth they were after putting some miles through them.
