Changing rack and pinion, few Qs.

I'm about to change the rack and pinion on a 2001 WS6. It looks like the passenger side bolt will easily slide out, but the driver side bolt looks like it will hit the lip of the oil pan. Please tell me that I don't have to lift up the driver side of the engine. Let me know if you guys have any tips. Thanks

Yeah any help would be cool. I think I am going to be changing mine in my 02 WS6 here pretty soon. If i get mine in before you do ill let ya know how it went.

I have bad news. According to the manual, which is for 2000 camaro/firebirds, you have to remove the left side engine mount through bolt. Then it says to raise the engine with a hydrolic jack. Honestly, it might not be that difficult. A pain in the ***, yes, but doable. Good luck.

Thats what I thought was going to have to happen. It won't be difficult, just a much bigger pain than I was hoping for. Thanks for the info.

use a hacksaw and cut the bolt out after loosening it...then replace it facing the right way so if you ever need to get it out its easy.

That's a good idea. Luckily I haven't attempted to remove the rack. This will definately change an hour and a half job into a twenty minute one.

Hey I changed my rack and pinion on my 2000 TA. If I was you, I would cut the bolt with a dremmel and get the dremmel with an extension that can easily be put through between the exhaust intake. I bough mine from wal mart for $50 and you can buy the cutting wheels from there too? I tookme a 1 minute to cut the bolt. Hey where do you live? Maybe I can help you. I bought a recipricating saw but it wobbled to much so thats why i bought the dremmel with the extension. If I would of kept going with the recipricating saw I would have damaged the oil pan.
