popping noise when clutch released
when i take off in first gear i'm hearing a popong sound. it sounds like it coming from the rear of the car. i only hear it in first gear. it sound like when you where little and stuck your finger in your mouth and pulled it out to one side, "pop". any ideas?

when I was little?? I still do that..LOL, Are you sure that it isn't your exhaust? If that is the case, it could definately be your cat, or maybe you are running to rich. If not, then it could be your rear end, maybe a spider gear in there is stripped and is clunking around.

my cats are gutted. it sounds like a metallic pop. like very thin metal.
my rear end does whine a lot, but so does the transmission, lol.
the center console get hot too. around the hand brake. is that normal?

If it is the exhaust. It is your air system. The air system works when the car is cold to help the cats, by introducing fresh air into the exhaust manifold. Delete the air system. This is normal.
