What oil to run?

i just got a 99 z28 with 80,000+ miles on it and info will help. the lowest ive see the pressure is 40lbs

I would say stick with a good conventional oil unless you are going for a longer oil change interval. I like Castrol GTX 10w-30 or Havoline 10w-30. The Mobil 1 tends to sheer back to a thinner grade with use.

From the oil I HAVE USED SO FAR, i would run Mobil 1 5W40. Now, most are going to say German Castrol 0W30. I just bought a lot of this and am going to try it out my next oil change. But, as far as now, id run M1 5W40.

What would you guys put in if you didn't know it's history before the 80k miles? My old fbody I put int 5w30 mobil 1 synthetic, but I just got a WS6 with 77k miles and changed it with 10w30 castrol (what I used in my old vette) I didn't think putting synthetic in would be a good idea on a high mileage car. Since changing oil tho, the car seemed to tick a little louder.

Yeah, this topic should deffinitely be made a sticky.

I'm at 77,7xx miles, purchased at 72,5xx. I use Mobil 1 5w-40. Though for now, over the winter (and to use it up) I have 10w-30 in.

Amsoil 5W40, it quieted the piston slap vs. the GC 0W30 I tried.

I just got some Royal Purple 5w30, I want to see if I notice a difference in the sound of the engine like the Amsoil for example, Seems to get them quieter.

I ran Mobile 1 in my 99 WS6 for a while, and I converted over to royal purple. I am also thinking about changing my tranny and gear oil over to the purple because you gain a little more foot pounds of torque. I saw it on Horespower TV. They changed all the oils to royal purple and they gained about 10 foot pounds at the wheels.
