I did a search and it definately seems like the EGR valve causes a P1404 SES light. I took my car to the mechanic today because my SES came on and off twice. He pulled 1404 and told me that it's the selenoid for the exhaust canister and that needed to be replaced. Could that be true also? My car has 121k on the clock, so I was thinking about just replacing the EGR valve all together (after I read up on the code here on the forums), and not bother cleaning it since my car has a decent amount of miles. Thoughts?
Thank you.
Thank you.

My EGR valve died @59k miles, so my dumbass bought a new valve to fix the problem. Six months later I rip all the emissions crap out anyway
. So, I've got a practically new EGR valve with a couple thousand miles on it. If you want it, shoot me a pm. They're too freakin' expensive to buy new.

Anyone else have and thoughts or ideas? I had my SES light reset when I went to my mechanic, but it came back on today.

Sounds like he's talking about the EVAP purge solenoid.
The helms manual shows P1404 as "EGR Closed Position
Performance". Basically it appears to be a sticking EGR
valve. If the pcm thinks the EGR valve is stuck it tries
to clear it by commanding it 100% open then 0%.
If the pcm thinks the EGR is not returning to the desired
position it eventually sets the code.
Guess it's time for a new one or have the code programmed
out. Probably happen to me soon, I'm high mileage too.
