Default Couple nic nacs

i just purchased a 98 trans am auto with 117k its got leather and all the options. I didnt gove but 5900 cash for its clean. I got 2 questions and i know they probablly been discussed before but where can i find the answer. my headlights when they go down they grind, both of them what can i do about that. and the inside lights didnt work like the mirror lights well i checked the fuse and it was missin so i put one in it and i can see why it was out. All the inside mirror lights and the back light stay on they wont cut off even if u got the doors shut and the trunk and the swithes off they still stay on have yall ever herd of that. So i got to take the fuse out or the lights stay on while ur going down the road

The headlight grinding is common due to the plastic gears, there is a temp fix where you flip the gear 180 degrees to the un-used portion. At 117K miles though, someone may have already done that. The other option is to buy replacement brass gears, IIRC those are about $70.

Try doing a search on headlight gears or motors and I'm sure you'll get all the details you need for either option.

As for the lights staying on, my guess is the door ajar switch is stuck/broken.

I'd say get the brass gear kit. If you get new motors it will cost a great deal more $$$$ and eventually they will just do the same thing as the current ones. I beleive this is the link to the place I bought brass gears from once.... http://my.execpc.com/C4/4A/rodney1/firebird/

You know what? That's a great question. I just went to the garage and looked at mine, I can't find it either. I've never had an issue with in on my F-bodies though, but on previous cars where that issue has occured it usually was the result of that button not making proper contact (bad wires/corrosion, etc.).

I think there are electrical switches inside the door. You will have to pull the door panel off. I remember when I had mine apart the radio wouldnt turn off when you opened the door or something wierd i cant remember. But i do remember there being 2 switches inside the door towards the back of the door by the latch. Im guessing thats where its at. So you may want to check those and make sure they are both plugged in and not damaged. But dont take my word for it i cant remember exactly but im pretty sure....Ben

That sounds like the Retained Acc. Power switch. That went bad on my Bonneville once, it was inside the door as well.
