Default Is GC 0W-30 too thin

So I just put the much-acclaimed Castrol German Synthetic 0W-30 in my LS1, and was talking to my friend about it. He was horrified and told me, "it wont create enough pressure to float the main bearing properly, given your oil port sizes." Now this is a guy really familiar with the old SBCs, but has never worked on or done anything with an LS1.

What do you think? Seems like it wouldn't matter to me since the operating weight is stil 30W anyway.

I live in Georgia BTW, warm climate.

From what I have read hear and on other boards, the German Castrol is more like a 5w-40 oil. Where as Mobil 1 5w-30 is on the thinner side and acts like a 5w-20 oil.

You should be fine.

It's true, this oil is almost a 40wt, it's at the very top end of the 30wt range, so it's not a thin oil by any means. The 0w part is what fools people. It's rated 0w simply because it's got a very good cold cranking number in extreme cold. But truth be told it's actually a little thicker on a cold start in average temperatures than most 5w30s.

This oil is definitely good for summer use, no matter how hot it gets.

Definitely! I ran it in my old 95 Formula and got excellent oil analysis results, and we all know the LT1 is extremely similar to the original small block 350.

Have you ever thought of using AMSOIL 0-w30. Used it in Camaro for over 4 years with
no problems.

I've been using Castrol GTX in my motor for the 3 years I've owned it, and it hasn't blown up yet....so Castrol GTX must be the best oil out there.

AMEN ! Use it in my original 68 Z28 as well as a couple of LS! cars. Used oil analysis looks good so far.

German GTX is good, but a quality full synthetic is the way to go.
