Default Water Pump issues

My water pump started leaking at about 60,000 miles on my 02 WS6. I replaced it with one I got from Lee Auto parts. It was fine for about a month and now it's leaking again. It's not leaking bad but still bothers me. The gasket surfaces where it mates to the block are dry. I think that the actual pump body is leaking or the weep hole. This could be a defective pump but I was just wondering if anyone else had an issue on their LS1.

dirty gritty crappy coolant can make the seal leak even on a new pump...is the coolant clean? Are you using dexcool? one of the reasons gm went to dexcool was because of the water pump seal leaking with silicate based coolants...its hard on pump seals.

I have metal gaskets and I can definetely see that they are not leaking. It looks like the leak is coming from the plate on the back of the pump. But it's hard to tell, it could also be the weep hole. I did not use Dex-cool. All Lee auto parts had at the time was the stuff that supposedly mixes with anything. I didn't want to drive around to find Dex-cool because at the time the pump was leaking pretty bad and I was afraid of overheating my motor. I flushed my cooling system after the install so I know that the coolant is clean. But it's not Dex-cool. The person at Lee auto parts said that this new coolant mixes with anything. Normally I would not believe this, but I work for Audi and we have a similar situation. The older coolants that Audi used were ethyl-glycol, then they swithched to propalene-glycol which is kind of like Dex-cool. And now they have a coolant that works with both. Could it be that LS1's require only Dex-cool. I am kind of leaning toward a defective waterpump. And when I put the new one on I will definetely use only Dex-cool.

if its clean then its not a coolant issue.you got a bad pump seal..it happens.
