Re: what weight oil?
Wether Hot or cold, Low or High Mileage I would run 10w-30 at least. Its a tad thicker for a bit more protection. Some will say 5w30 but for peace in my mind I run 10w30. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Definitely 10w30 over 5w30, but you also might want to mix in a quart or two of 15w50 in the summer to get the viscosity closer to a high 30wt if you're gonna use M1. Mobil 1 is a thinner 10w30 which has a viscosity of 9.8cst at 100c. The range of a 30wt oil is 9.3 to 12.5cst. By adding a couple of quarts of the thicker stuff it'll put the viscosity around 12.3cst, at the top end of the 30wt. I'm starting to believe that the LS1 and LT1 will show better wear numbers with an oil closer to a high 30/low 40wt.
If you look at the technical specs on other oils you can see which ones have thicker viscosities to start with. For instance the new Castrol high mileage 10w30 is 12.0cst at 100c. Amsoil's 10w30 is also around the same. If I remember correctly, Redline and Royal Purple are in the 11.0 to 11.5 range.

I'd be very interested in seeing how the wear metals look on an LS1 with this combo. Like I said, it should put the viscosity close to the very top end of the 30wt scale, which I believe is ideal for having low engine wear numbers. This should also lessen piston slap noise a bit and reduce consumption too.
