air pump and O2 sensors
I get the P1415 code from my 98, sometimes tripping the check engine light. From reading up on the definition of the code I'm wondering if a bad O2 sensor could be part of the problem. The car has never really had a smooth idle, but my mileage has been hurting (went from 20mpg to 17) since around the time the code appeared. Any thoughts???

i believe when i had P1415, it was one of the AIR check valves. They are on the tubes that go up from the manifolds to the rubber hoses. Replace those, and you should be golden.

Just had the P1415 code come up today.Replace the drivers side AIR check valve. This valve has a large hose connected to it.If it was never changed before it maybe very had to get off.I would remove the entire check valve-tube *** and put it in a vise to be sure you don't break the tube off the exhaust header. Then use a little anti seize on the threads when you install the new valve.Probably a good idea to replace both valves, one on each side while you're at it.If one is carboned up and sticking the other is probably getting sticky too.

will removing the a.i.r system throw any codes? i read somewhere that only the egr will throw a code(i have a 2001 so i dont have the egr) and that the air will not throw a code...also any other benefits to removing the air beside cleaning up the engine bay?

removing the air system will throw a bunch of codes...plus the cats will die early...plus the PCM uses the air system to test the O2 sensors at startup....plus...plus...plus...let it alone unless you want to spend on a tune...even then you are asking for lots or headaches. The air system does alot more than people realize.
