I've been running it to 7k myself. On the bobistheoilguy forums, I've seen some people say they run it past 11k even.

Most definitely! I've run it 9000 miles in my Corvette and the oil analysis came back showing it could've gone longer. I've gone even longer than 9k in other cars in my family too (as much as 11,600 in my wife's car) and there was still lots of life left in the oil. Europeans don't do 3000 mile oil changes, so European made oil is built to handle much longer drain intervals.

Hey guys, a couple of questions.... Is it OK to use AC Delco Filter. I went to my local dealer and got a filter (think it was PF 44 - the small one), should I go back and get the BIG AC Delco or just go for the K+N?
ALSO, how long can oil sit in a car? does the 3 months/3,000mi rule apply here, or can I go longer? I generally change my oil 3 times a year, but put on maybe 1,000mi...if even. I do it once at the end of the season(rid any acids/cntaminents in the oil), once at the start(if any moisture is present durin the winter) and sometimes one in the middle(usually go more for time at that point than based on milage.

If you have no oil consumption issues AT ALL is it necessary to run this oil?

I don't think it's "necessary", but it did affect a few things on mine: quieter valvetrain (which I hear isn't the case for some), a little more consistant oil pressure, a little higher across the board, and no consumption issues. I wasn't using much of the M1 5/30, but enough to add a little between changes.

FWIW, this summer I changed the GC 0w30 in my mom's car, it was in her car for almost two years and 7600 miles. The oil analysis results came back looking great, low wear metals, no contamination (fuel, water, coolant that is) and the oil still had lots of life left in it.

If you're only driving 1k a year, you could easily go 2-3 years between changes. At only 1k per year your engine will never wear out in your lifetime anyhow.

I just got 5 quarts of the GC gold today. Gonna run it in my 07 Colorado when it hits about 3,000 miles. This Autozone had lots of it.

Wow you got the green kind. Hard to find these days. Still cheaper than Redline.

It is the right stuff. They did a reformulation. Its now the gold color but the same. I have been using it for a while. Alot of people swear by it and a few dont think its all that. I have an Autozone right down the street that keeps it in stock. I change my oil pretty often and yes its expensive but I think of it as insurance.

It's not exactly the same, the green formula had more calcium and less magnesium in it, while the gold formula has less calcium and more magnesium. They do both use the same base oil though. From what I can see so far, the gold formula performs just as well in the used oil analysis reports as the green did.

Ive been using Mobil 1 0w40 in my LS1 GTO and LS2 TBSS with good UOAs at 5000 mile changes. Going to try the GC in both after reading the Mobil 1 threads about them going to group III base. If IM going to pay $6 a qt, Its gonna be for good oil

Cool, thanks for letting me know. Im going to go buy them out IF they have any. The LS2 seems to like the GC so far. Quiet at idle, feels like a bit more power and my mileage seems to be a bit better by about 1mpg. Could be in my head but still....
