Default Rotten eggs?

Sometime when I drive my car hard or do higher RPM shifts, I'll get like a rotten egg/sulfur smell. What would cause something like that?

what he said, that smell is a telltale sign your cat is either bad, goign bad, gutted or otherwise removed.

I've been told that it could be a sign of a bad cat. I have also been told that a rich a/f mixture will cause the cats to emit the smell. My 01 gives off the smell from time to time at low throttle.

If it is a catalytic converter you may be eligible for a replacement according to federal law as they are required to have a specific service life.

8 years warantee on cats....Sound to me like your o2 sensors are going out and thats a nice little 140$ problem to fix Try searching for more info on the subject though...Do you get a service engine light on?

I actually did have the SES light come on a while back for a few days, ended up being a bad o2 on the left bank, but never replaced it. The after a few days it just went away...

Yeah they will do that its better to replace both of them at the same time since the other one will go out etc etc your car is definately needing o2 sensors has your gas milage gone done as well? If it has then yeah time to fork over the cash

Actually I have lost a couple MPG's. So if I replace both o2 sensors before the cats, I'll be ok? Is that the smell or is it the cats???

Strict laws on cleaner air have required vehicles to be outfitted with catalytic converters so that the gas discharged by the exhaust would be less harmful for the environment. Some vehicle exhaust gases smell like rotten eggs. This is caused by the catalytic converter as it changes the exhaust gases. Sulphur in the fuel combines with oxygen to create the smell. Unfortunately, the odor is the small price we have to pay for cleaner exhaust, but if the smell is strong, the vehicle should be checked. An engine that is using too much fuel or is running rough causes the converter to work extra hard, as it tries to convert the unburned fuel into other gases. The converter gets extremely hot under these conditions; exceeding 650 degrees C. and this soon causes converter failure.

Well you have long tubes it should smell bad with the cutout open have you had your car tuned since the header install? If not your car is running rich and is going to smell like that.

The guy I bought it from said it was tuned. My A/F was right at 13 when I dynoed it.

only one reason for a sulfur smell,it called ELCHEAPO gas.it will also do a number on your fuel sending unit.better buy gas someplace else from now on.the sulfer content in the gas you are buying is too high.you should report it to the feds,they are supposed to watch that gas comp don't slip in ELCHEAPO high sulfur fuel in their tanks.it can do alot of serious damage to the emssion systems. http://dnr.wi.gov/org/aw/air/reg/lowsulfurfuelfaq.html
