Default Reverse Lights Not working

For some odd reason my reverse lights have started to not work and i cant figure out why. I havent checked the bulbs beucase I thought i saw them go on and then they havent so i am leaning more towards it being something else. Does anyone have a clue as to what to do or how to fix it

Thanks

SEth

Maybe you can piggy back some wires and run them to a volt meter to see if its working. I don't have teh schematic in front of me at the moment but there must also be a relay in the circuit that needs to be checked.

Well, Im a bit biased as I have messed with electronics my whole life.

Yellow Monster, do you also have an M6 or do you have an auto? If auto, you just have to pull up the shifter console and check the switch (IIRC, its there on the shifter).

If you guys have an M6, just piggy back wires on to the rev switch connector, run the wires (speaker wires would be OK) up to the cabin put a volt meter on them and see if you get a change in voltage when you put it in reverse. If you cant do that, and have a wife, g/f, kid or buddy that can help, get under the car (on jackstands of course) and have them put it in reverse (car off of course) while you ohm the switch.

If I remember, I'll check my service manual when I get home tonight. give you guys some places to check.

I have an M6 and I am not very experienced with electronics and dont quite understand the concept of piggy backing wires as you were explaining it. Thanks for any and all of the other info you can provide

I had my reverse light switch go on me about 3 months ago, it's part 59 on the diagram like ROCNDAV said and takes about three minutes to do. Unplug & Unscrew the old one from the passenger side of the t-56, and put the new one in. Not an expensive part and can do it with your car on the ground (exhaust better be cold though).

I checked the wires with a continuity testeer with the car in reverse and the power on. The green wire showed nothing and the brown wire made it light up. I'm assuming that means the switch is bad???
