I can't remove my T-Tops. Any ideas?
I just purchased a 98 Trans Am. The previous owner told me that he lost the key to the tops, so I called the dealer to see about getting a replacement. They told me to use the door key. The key slides in, but it doesn't turn at all. Does anyone have any clue why this is happening?
Thanks

Door key works for the tops, try pulling at the handle a bit while trying to turn the key.
Otherwise call a locksmith, it would suck to have ttops and not use them this summer.

well, im gonna try a locksmith... i just went out to try the handle trick someone mentioned and noticed the plastic molding in the vicinity looked tampered with.... im gonna assume the lock was changed.
Is it strange, though, that the key fits in the "new" lock?

Does the key work in the hatch, glove compartment...etc? Same key, if it works there then lock cyls on the t-tops have been changed - hopefully both tops were re-keyed the same/or came off the same car if they were replaced, otherwise you'll need a bigger key chain.

just a thought but ever thought about spraying wd40 into the key hole a few times then trying it. i had to do this to my trunk once because I always used the remote or interior release, until I needed to open it when the I had the battery unhooked, the key would go in and not turn. I doubbt this is your problem since the t-top keyholes are inside out of the whether, but for what it will cost 0.00 and the time it will take 3 mins might be worth it.

well, I have an appt with a local locksmith around noon today. Hopefully, its a quick and painless fix (he also said it would be a lot easier if they were rekeyed with the same lock).
i'll keep you guys posted
