The lower-degree rated thermostat will open sooner, making the flow higher, and keeping temps down.
This is also aided by the addition of a fan control switch (to manually turn on the fans when you want to) and/or the re-programming of the PCM to turn on the fans at lower temps.

If you dont change your fan settings you wont see a difference. You car would run cooler just by changing your fan settings with the stock stat.

iv'e used a 160 stat and later reprogramming. the new stat will make a difference if the fans are on (like when running the AC or crusing). IMO, buy the thermostat, it does help

Lt1 thermostats are totally different than ls1 stats. Unless you already knew that.

I have stock fan settings and my car runs at 160 on the highway with the 160 stat. Runs cooler all over. Fans rarely kick on.

It does its job when your getting plenty of fresh air and moving.. But once you get into traffic thats where you need a fan switch to drop your temps. Or have your fans programmed. Slight drop in MPG from running cooler though.

Like ls1monster said. Driving on the freeway doesnt really apply. You have constant air moving thru the radiator. Its hot, stop and go traffic that you need the fans for. Your car cant run at say 160* when your in stop and go traffic when your fans are programmed to come on at 215*. So with the thermo opening sooner you just have coolant flowing thru your motor sooner, thats still going to reach a certain temp before the fans kick on.

It runs at 160. There is no stop and go traffic. It is a town not a city. Works perfect for me. I hardly ever touch 215. I might see that temp once or twice a week.

You said exactly what I said, just with different words. You live in a town with no stop and go traffic. If you lived where it was stop and go alot and had high temps, the 160 wouldn't do crap if you didnt change your fans.

Just because you dont live in a city or somewhere there is alot of stop and go traffic doesnt mean the original poster does. I should of been more clear and broke down all the geographics of the US. No matter what, running a 160* stat without the fans being reprogrammed does not help if you live somewhere where it gets hot with a lot of stop and go traffic. Its been proven you dont even need to run a 160* stat in a LS1. Just by reprogramming or using a manual fan switch to have the fan come on sooner with even a stock stat makes a huge difference in the temp of the car.

I just wanted to add that the only reason I run a 160* stat is because I live in Vegas with a lot of stop and go traffic and in the Summer it gets 120*+ alot.

I dont know if your disagreeing or agreeing with me, but either way I know what you are saying. It just doesnt apply to everyone.
