No idea, but I know my dipstick was way off lol. I always filled mine up with 5 qts (if I remember correctly that what they take) and never had a problem.

I've always thought that the oil will foam up and not lube properly if you add too much oil.

I put in 6 qts and the dipstick still shows 1/4 qt low.....go figure.

true but not in that sense.if its too full,the oil may contact the crankshaft.This won't foam the oil as much as it would cause a HUGE amount of drag on the engine.the ls1 design is such that it can use 1qt easily without this happening.another thing to consider,when the engine is running the oil pan has less oil in it as some is constantly being pumped throughout the engine.that lowers the oil level in the pan also.so its quite possible you could put an extra 2 qts in the pan.
