The rear end in those cars always makes noise, unless you have play in the DS dont worry about it really. My TA clunked when i went over a bump with a sharp drop. As to your RPMS, try your MAF, or your VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) as a ford guy, thats where I would start, maybe GM guys can help you more. Just my $.02

clogged injectors, fuel filter, or maybe even your throttle linkage.

Check your throttle linkage to make sure it doesn't have any crap on it. Maybe your throttle performs fine until it gets down to the idle position and it sticks. Hit it up at the throttle body (with engine off) with some wd40 or other penetrating lubricant.

My car doesn't make any other such noises though. But there are quite a few things that can make your car idle high even if just for a bit.

the rpm holding until you come to a complete stop is actually fairly normal, my lt1 m6 does the same thing it holds about 1300 rpm in neutral while your rolling and when you come to a stop it will come down to about 900-950 rpm

has it always done that or has it gotten noticably worse recently

as for the clunk in the rear end my car used to do the same thing i narrowed it down to the right rear and it turned out being the lower control arms the bushings looked alright my car has low miles (65,000) but i put some after market control arms in there with much better bushings and it took care of every last bit of that clunking in the rear

hope this helps ya out

Oh crap, forgot to mention it, as a 5.0 owner, i can tell you, the IAC will cause all sorts of ****. (IDLE AIR CONTROL valve). My computer/cam/IAC have to convince me to change induction and go carb. Also looking for a few more at the rollers, that way I can kill the M6 F-bods and not just the A4's from a roll

on the drivers side of the throttle body near the throttle position sensor.
when you find it take it off and inspect the pintle, it is probably carboned up. just clean it with some carb and choke cleaner and make sure it is free.

did you remove the iac and check the internal pintle? if it is carboned up it will stick and cause the rpms to hang momentarily.

I have the same issue. Doesn't do it all the time. Seems to do it mostly when the car is not completely warm and I accelerate somewhat hard. "RPM LAG" was the term used by a LSx tuner when I described it to him. He said he could correct it for me, so I'm assumed it's a programming issue.

If you have had the car tuned, talk to you tuner. If not, find one. With the mods you have tuning is everything.

As far as the knocking from the rear check your exhaust clearances.

Good Luck!!

My 02 WS6 did the same thing stock and with cam and headers.
I bought HPtuners and tuned it out with the throttle cracker and such.
Works great now.
