Default Wix vs K&N Oil Filter?

I've been running K&N oil filters, but I'm not sure if the extra price is worth it. I always ran Wix in the past and was happy with them. Does anyone know where I can find actual comparisons to read? I've Googled it, but got back a bunch of crap. I'm going to continue to run the K&N for now, but I'd like to find an actual test comparison, not a bunch of opinions, for the two to let me know if the price difference is justified. Thanks.

This was on Wix's web site, so it's biased

air or oil filter??

I use WIX for my air and the longer K&N for my oil.

Yeah, I figure anything from either of the two companies will be biased.

Have you looked on bobistheoilguy.com they have/had a comparison test of several major filter brands (it was a huge thread with pics of the internals and flow tests)

I stick with the longer K&N filter. The Wix is probably very good but I have not seen any independent tests on the Wix yet. I believe your oil is the most important fluid in your car and I don't see skimping on oil or an oil filter to save a few bucks. Just my opinion.

I looked on there, but didn't see that. Guess I'll look again.

See that's the thing, I've yet to see ANYTHING that actually states K&N filters better then Wix! There are features of the K&N that make it more expensive, but not necessarily a better filter. Features like thicker walls to with hold blow outs (mines a street car, not too concerned with that); the 1" nut that eases removal (I do have a filter wrench); a hole drilled through the 1" nut for a safety wire (again, I'm not a pro racer); and a couple other things that seem insignificant to me. They do talk up their filter material, but then again so does Wix. And some things I've read state that Wix uses the best valve/spring designs on the market.

So again, I'm curious to see some actual test results, and not everyone's opinions on the topic.

I agree with you 100%. When an independent test shows it is just as good at filtration I'll be the first to switch. Until then I'm sticking with the K&N which does have a very good independent test.

And I too agree with you! I'm going to keep running the K&N as well, but I'd really like to find some test results!!

I found that page the other day, and although it does give very good descriptions of how the filters are put together, it gives no data about how well they filter.

My opinion, WIX all the way. I used to work at an autoparts store, which doesnt say ANYTHING FACTUAL, but the amount of people that woudl coem in and continue to buy WIX filters after me selling them there first one was unreal. The people woudl come in, ask for me and want another one of "them great filters" They would claim tehre oil was much cleaner after changing to Wix from fram. I never have used K&N filters, but I would run WIX on mine if it was me..... Jus tmy .02 man, from actual customer experience. Again, not any actual tests, but figured it was worth throwing out there. I also switched to a WIX on my 2nd gen DSM turbo, and the oil was imensly cleaner after changing from a cheapo. Good luck on your searches pal!

Because lots of people bought them? Is that what someone said? Lot's of people bought the pet rock in the 70's too. There are still lots of people who believe putting stickers and a fart can exhaust on their cars make them faster. Geritol was marketed and sold in the 50's as being able to cure "tired blood". Cigarettes were said to be good for you and help cure throat problems as well at one time. People in large groups seem to be morons and will believe almost anything for the most part.

If the general public thinks something is good odds are I'd go another way. My guess is all those people buying Wix filters bought them because they were cheap or listened to someone who listened to someone else who still had no clue other than the fact that his car did not blow up when using it. Again, it is probably a very good filter but I keep looking for head to head test results and have not found any yet. I'll keep looking though.
