Because they're cheap, and you don't have to worry about the platinum disc burning off of the electrode. I would choose iridium over platinum, but I'm not spending 8 dollars per plug. I'm fine changing them once a year and sticking with copper V-Powers.

Yes, the price is the main reason why people use the tr-55 v-powers. You could change them out 4 times for what a set of iridiums cost. You can buy a whole set for $16. I ordered some NGK tr-55 iridiums last night from Thunder, only because I was ordering some other stuff and wanted to try them out.

They are having an everything's 10% off sale.

I went with the NGKs. Part number 3951. I just could not justify spending 8 bucks a pop on a part that I was eventually going to throw away. Gotta say the car is running quite smooth.

the ngk that came with my maxima and what i replace with are around 5 bux a pop...the ls1 is outta my car rite now with headers off and everything so i figure i'd change out the plug...but from what i've read alot of hybrids with ls1 have a big problem getting to the plugs in the back i'd figure i use the platinum so it'll last a lil longer and not have to get in there as much...

LS1 plugs aren't that bad. Its about 30 minutes a side. Should be one of the first things you do every season if you have a lot of money in your car. In March 07 or whenever Michigan says she can come out and play next spring I'll be filling her up with Amoco Ultimate, and dropping in some new NGK's. I run 1 # colder plugs to help protect against pre - detonation. So for 1 hour and $20 you can have a new running car every season. Wires probably every 3rd season unless I don't drive much. Those headers cook the hell otta my wires. JMO

from a small research that i've done...it appears like of all the major conductor...only silver has better conduction property then copper..gold has less conduction property but is desireable becuz it is not prone to corrosion...and corrosion is the flaw of copper...i'm assuming y platinum cost more is due to this same property as gold that it's not prone to corrosion thus better conduction in the long run??? this is only my assumption based on what i've found so can anyone confirm this???

I took the denso iridium's out when I just changed mine. They looked Ok but the gap was like .070. I was not sure how long they were in there. Did the 02 Z come with the Denso's originally does anyone know? I think the 02 did come with iridiums originally. I went with the TR55's. I put 2500 miles a year on my car so these should last me a good 4 years and I couldn't justify the price difference in that after 4 years I'd change plugs no matter what kind I used.
