Which Oil Filter?
To sum it up, use the filter of your choice and change it every 3-5K miles along with the oil.
Its' a no-brainer!
It's a good filter I guess, im no filter guru but it's gotta be better than Fram.

The K&Ns flow extremely well, while still filtering down enough to take out harmful stuff. I've been using these filters on my wife's car for a while, and just used one on my Firebird.
I've since switched to Carquest Premium oil filters, which are identical to NAPA Gold/Wix filters. These flow very well too, but are a lot less costly.
With a high performance car you don't want a filter that filters down to 10 microns, unless it's fully fibreglass (like the Ultraguard Gold or the old Harddriver filters) A filter that filters down that small but isn't 100% glass, will be too restrictive to oil flow and will go in and out of bypass too often, creating more engine wear.
The guy who interprets my oil analysis results says he prefers a filter that will filter out the 20-25 micron stuff but will not go into bypass too often. He says that if you choose the right oil, you won't end up with too many particles in the oil to begin with. And the 10 micron stuff isn't as harmful as you think, not in a looser clearance engine like the LT1 or LS1.
i use the wix filters. they are supposed to be one of the better filters. i sont know the #'s, but im sure someone can chime in and give you the #'s for the long and regular ones.

The long Wix is the 51522, the short one is the 51042. The NAPA Gold is the same filter, but their numbering system simply drops the 5 at the beginning, so the long is the 1522, the short is the 1042. As I mentioned, these filters are very good, they flow well, use a glass enhanced media and a silicone antidrainback valve (the best there is, it resists hot/cold cycles better)

K&N filters do not use cardboard in them at all. Only Fram and Purolator do.

I bought a few online and they've worked great for me.
