Default A/c Not Blowing Cold At All. Please Help!!!

ok. i recharged my a/c a couple of months ago and it started blowing a little cooler. but i was driving home from hot springs, ar to tulsa, ok and i found myself starting to sweat. so i was like what the hell. so i turned it off and rolled the windows down and waited about 30 minutes to an hour and turned it back on with the windows up and it started blowing cooler air. and now, it just blows air. so im sweatin my *** of everywhere i go. so is it the compressor or condensor. im clueless when it comes to this. and whichever it is could you point me in the right direction where to get it and about how much i expect to spend on it and the installation. thank you very much for the help. Dan

Sure it's charged correctly? What are the pressures? This is a '95 chart - http://shbox.com/1/ac_performance_chart.jpg

I just fixed mine by changing the fuse...

since yours seems to work sometimes and then stop that may not be the problem...

I'd look at the ambient temp/humidity - then read the low pressure side on the gauge and also check the temp coming out of the left center vent. If pressures are right and it matches the chart you're using too, and still not cooling something else is going on - maybe the compressor isn't efficient or it's cycling on/off. If it worked for a couple months and stopped cooling I'd suspect a leak, you can buy referigerant with a dye in it.

It's possible your compressor clutch is giving you trouble. I've seen them work for a while until the coil gets hot then, when your compressor cycles out, be too weak to re-engage the clutch hub. Or if your coolant temp. sensor is telling your pcm your car is overheating(but its not) it will disable the compressor. Your car should also have a pressure sensor that tells the pcm what the a/c pressure is doing. If it's too high it will cycle off the compressor.

well last night my ac started making a really loud noise coming from what sounded like the front of the engine compartment closest to the bumper. it would still blow cold air while making this noise, but i didnt keep it going. and it only does it when your turn the ac on max,ac,and head and feet, so all the blue. any idea what this might be.

If it's a growling type of noise the compressor is probably on it's way out. Are you still in the Tulsa area?

My Z-28 did the same thing, it started making this loud thumping, banging and growling noise then quite blowing cold. The clutch still engaged but the compressor was fried, there was pieces of metal shaving's in the a/c lines when I had it evacuated and re-charged. When you buy a new compressor you'll need the drier as well, I spent nearly $600.00 to fix my a/c in my 98 Z-28. Gotta have my a/c with this how weather.

Should be mounted to the lower passenger side of the engine.

134 a don't like a lot of pressure get a set of gauges and get the system charged full with low side pressure reading between 30 and 35 psi. anything more and it won't cool properly cause the freon cannot convert back to a liquid to keep the cycles going with high pressure.

Alright, sorry to hijack the thread...but is it possible for the AC to leak through an AIR hose connected to the header? I dont know crap about the AIR and how it ties into the AC, but my leak is coming from the AIR Valve on the passenger side, and it leaked all the recharge kit I put into it. My friend has some AIR hoses/valve laying around, should I just swap it? My AC does not blow cold air...

Thanks
