hesitation on 4.6 mustang?
I know its not a ls1 but I don't use any mustang sites so thought I would ask you guys.
my sister n law has a 2003 mustang 4.6 liter
it started having a hesitation and they took it to Delk and they replaced the plugs with didn't help then they replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter which did help and the filter had dark colored gas coming out of it. she said it helped about a week and then it started back again. autozone gave her seafoam to put in the gas and that didn't help.
the car has 60k on it.
the only thing I can think of is the filter stoped up again maybe something in the tank or a vacuum leak. Delk told her the car is fine but two other people drove it and notice the hesitation. She is going to bring it over here in a few hours so if you guys have any ideas on something to check please let me know. thanks

Most likely it has a COP going out. They can intermittently misfire A LOT for quite a long time and never set a DTC. Ford's coils are some of the worst in the industry. If no DTC is set, the ONLY way to diagnose the problem is with Ford's WDS scan tool.
So basically if it feels like it has a misfire, "hesistation" is extremely vague, first check for factory Motorcraft plugs - anything else is JUNK! Then you have 3 options with no DTC's:
1. Take it to a dealer and spend $90 for diagnosis, $100+ for the coil, and another $50 for the labor.
2. You could replace all the coils at $100+ each.
3. Buy a GM or Dodge vehicle with a decent misfire monitor system...
