Question Timing Chain Question

I have just turned over 110K on my car and it is running great so far. I have heard from various sources that timing chains are only good for about 90K and after that it could pretty much "clock out" at any time. Just curious how many of you guys have replaced a timing chain on your car and what was your mileage when you changed it. Any and all replies are helpful. Thanx

no, I didn't change it when I put the cam in because I wanted to buy a dual roller chain and my mechanic said that I didn't need a new chain yet and that I would have to buy another timing cover if I bought a dual roller chain.

I thought timing chains were good for "the life of the motor". Granted, I'd change it if I ever did a cam just because it's right f'ing there, but barring that, do they actually need to be changed at a specific interval like timing belts?

If there is alot of play in the chain then I would change it. But, no need to change if there's not of play. But, if i already had the motor apart. I would go ahead and change it if had the extra cash.

For 20 bucks you can get an ls2 chain that is much burlier and reliable. your spinning a bigger cam, i would definately not want to risk piston to valve contact from skipping a tooth or the old chain breaking. btw you can use the ls2 chain with your existing cam and crank gears

if you change a cam, esp a much larger one....change the chain....when i put in my new motor i changed the chain to a ls2 anyways.....they will last the lifetime of the car....its not a belt like in a 4 banger

I heard that somewhere in the 150K range, for stock, is when the timing chain "should be" changed.

As for new cam=new Timing chain...no matter what

I ran a stock chain with comp XE cam in my camaro to 114,000 miles with no issues. HOWEVER I broke my stock Ls6 chain(bent 10 valves) at 45,000 on the Z06 with a comp XER. So, Id certainly change it when you do the cam. I went with a rollmaster single and some TSP CNCd heads.
