The spring in the window assembly

The spring in the window assembly a friend of mine was replacing his window motor but he took the x that rides on the window rails and the spring thats in the center of the x came off how do you put that spring back on with the right tension?
I replaced both of my window motors about a 1 1/2 years ago. After putting everything together, I shut the door and the springs fell out on both sides. I took everything apart again. Put it all back together again. I shut the doors again and they came out. So I took the door panel off and took the springs out and put them in my garage. The windows have worked fine.

My driver's side door hasn't had the helper spring in it for almost 3 years, so I am leaning towards the "it doesn't matter" conclusion. The window works the same as the un-altered passenger side-no problems.

Its not a spring - its a counterbalance for the weight of the window. Without the spring, your motor will have to work harder and will not shut the glass quite as tight against the seals as it would otherwise.
