Has Anyone Tried This Pcv Valve ?
98-02 LS1 GM PCV Valve (New Design)
[12572717] $6.99
As many of you know, the PCV system on the 98-02 LS1's isnt exactly the greatest system on the planet.....burning up to 1 quart every 3K miles. After many complaints, GM finally issed a service bulletin to address this issue on all of the GEN 3 engines. They have replaced the ball-type PCV valve with a new fixed orifice design that is used in the GM trucks. This design will help reduce oil-consumption on your LS1.
New GM part. Please allow 1-2 days to ship out.

I tried this to see if my oil consumption would be better than adding 1 quart every 3,000 miles. Has anyone tried it ? I just installed it about 500 miles ago. My ticking noise went away when I changed to 5w-30 AMSOIL also.

Try a switch to German Castrol Syntec 0w30 and then see if you still have consumption issues.
It has to say Made in Germany on the back.
I used Mobil 1 5w30 prior to the Castrol and found 1000miles = 1 quart lost.
With Castrol, 8000 miles = 1/3 of a quart....

I am looking more so at anyone who has used this PCV valve. I saw this at ws6store.com and I went to a chevy dealer and purchased it for $6.75.
I feel that I have a good quality synthetic in AMSOIL. I have only driven 500 miles so I do not know if the AMSOIL also solved the oil consumption like it solved the piston slap/ticking. Mechanic could not believe the ticking went away after the 5w-30 AMSOIL.
If you have changed to this PCV................then please give some feedback.
Thanks

Is that 5-30 amsoil synthetic? I have an annoying ticking and wonder if that would solve the problem. The best way to see if the new pcv helps is to do an oil change when your ready, see if any oil is lost. I think the pcv might help, but doesn't have everything to do with burning oil. Let us know what happens.

Amsoil synthetic 5w-30 item # ASLQT @ $7.05 per quart. I had tried Mobil one 5w-30 and it did not solve the ticking noise. I tried Amsoil 0w-30 and it did not solve it either. I decided to try the Amsoil 5w-30 and after 3 weeks, I still hear no ticking. The 5w-30 coats a little better per my mechanic. My mechanic can not believe it. The owner of the repair shop will not sell Amsoil due to he wants customers to change their oil every 3-5,000 miles. I have switched to Amsoil on all 3 of my autos. 06 monte carlos ss, 01 firehawk, and 96 callaway supernatural 440 impala ss................just ordered Amsoil 20w-50 race oil for the callaway. Callaway stated to use 15w-50 mobil 1, which I had been using. Amsoil in everything from now on including tranny, gear oil. I am sold. I also use the EA oil filters also.

Which Chevy truck PCV valve do you ask for at Auto Zone?
I actually just picked up a new PCV valve for my 1999 Z28, but will take it back for this truck one. I'm burning some oil (maybe 1 qt per 4000 miles), even with GC 0w30.

Autozone does not carry this PCV valve, so I picked it up from a Chevy dealer close to work. Looks just like the stock PCV valve overall, except the "rattler" is gone and it has one small hole on the valve cover side.
I assume the tiny hole is big enough for fumes etc., but small enough to keep too much oil coming through. I wouldn't expect it to completely stop sucking oil through though.
I'll try to post up in a couple of months as to whether it helped significantly or not.

The truck pcv valve didn't work for me. I ended up taking it off after about 1000 miles and used the stock one with a Home Depot catch can. I've got the truck valve in the garage if somebody wants it for like $5 shipped.

Has anyone measured the size of the hole in the truck pcv? I am curious what size it is and could you put your own restrictor in the hose and use it along with your existing pcv valve.

I think Patman runs his for 9 or 10 grand now on the same oil and his analysis are still returning with good numbers.

I tried this revised valve years ago on my WS6. It made no difference at all in my case, I still used the same amount of oil.
I beleive that the revised design has a 3mm orfice, while the orginal valve has a 10mm orfice.
