Default How to clean intake manifold?

I'd like to clean the gunk out of a used LS6 intake and put it on my car. What's the best way to clean the insides out? Also, what should I look for on the gaskets to see if I need to replace them? Thanks.

They are reusable gaskets. Just make sure they aren't brittle and don't have any cracks.

ok ok.....you can use a throttle body or carb cleaner, it will break down that gunk and run it out.....secondly...if you have the gray gaskets get rid of them, they dont give you as good of a seal as the red ones....there you go

Thanks for the heads-up, guys. Just to make sure I'm getting the right gaskets, it's the LS6 gaskets I'm looking for, right?

LS1 intake manifold gasket set = 12524653
LS6 intake manifold gasket set (contains 8 gaskets) = 12533587

Is it a bad idea to replace the intake gaskets with Fel-Pro brand gaskets? Should I be looking specifically for the exact GM part number?

123,000+ miles on gray gaskets that have been on 3 different intakes without any leaking or problems...if they are still plyable and have no cracks in them they are good to go..

^^^^ didnt say they wouldnt "work"....but you can honestly take the gray ones and the red ones and sit them together....the red ones stick out at least 1/8 inch...where as the grays are flush....thus the better seal would come from the reds....and stick with gm....dont go throwin on some other gaskets...

What is a better seal???...it is like being pregnant..it is either sealed or it is not..the symtoms of a vacum leak are very evident if you have one ... nuff said dude..

I do not know about he civil rights of the a for mentioned gaskets.. ..but no matter what color they are if they are pliable and not cracked they will work..sealed is sealed..if you do not have a vacuum leak it means they are working properly.. I rest my case..
