I use the small ac delco but after reading I will use the long one. Its stock height and no headers so I should be fine.

So I understand that a longer filter is better? Whats so bad about a $10 FRAM extended gaurd filter? Also are by-pass filters good or bad?

Not necessarily. A filter will filter best when it's fiber media is partially filled with particles to help filter even more particles. As long as flow isn't compromised, it actually filters better than a new filter.

When people are running 3k oil changes that doesn't give the filter time to "clog" much at all. So the smaller filter is probably better for short interval oil changes.
